Divorce Of Sultan Muhammad V And Rihana Oksana Officially Confirmed

For the past few days there has been talk on the marriage status of Sultan Muhammad V. Many said that he and Rihana Oksana have gotten a divorce while others disagreed. However, it has been officially confirmed that Sultan Muhammad V and Rihana Oksana are no longer married.

It was just last June that the happy couple were celebrating their marriage together in Moscow. The wedding came as a surprise to many Malaysians. This is because many were unaware that the Sultan of Kelantan was pursuing the Russian beauty queen.

In addition, Sultan Muhammad V then abdicated as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January this year. This came as a shock to the nation who had never seen a Sultan abdicate before. Many speculated on the reasons behind Sultan Muhammad V stepping down from the throne.

Furthermore, the announcement of their newborn son only came about in June on Rihana’s Instagram account. Their son, Tengku Ismail Leon Petra Tengku Muhammad V Faris Petra, was born on the 21st of May.

The Divorce

Rumours of the couple filing for divorce surfaced in the beginning of June. However, there was much confusion as there was no official statement. Meanwhile, Rihana was continuously posting sweet pictures of the couple on Instagram. The following captions were stories on the couple’s journey.

The divorce was confirmed by Koh Tien Hua who is Sultan Muhammad V’s lawyer. He is from the Singapore-based Eversheds Harry Elias LLP law firm. The letter from the law firm says:

“Please be informed that HRH (His Royal Highness) has irrevocably divorced Ms Rihana Oksana Gorbatenko in June 22, 2019, by three Talaqs in accordance with Syariah laws and the Kelantan Syariah Court has issued a Divorce Certificate dated July 1, 2019, in accordance with the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2002. On behalf of HRH, we request that his privacy be respected.”
