6 Ways to Boost your Wedding Entertainment Factor

A typical hotel wedding dinner can be a little… well, dull at parts. How do you make the reception more interesting and enjoyable for those attending? Here are 6 ways to boost your wedding entertainment factor to get your guests talking about your wedding after.

1) Live Painting

Ever notice that when someone is painting a canvas or a wall mural in public, it always attracts curious onlookers? People are fascinated by the process of creating art. Consider hiring a live painter that guests can request to paint their names, initials or even their faces on the spot. Alternatively, get a calligrapher to hand-write their names or quotes according to the guests’ wishes. Besides being an interesting attraction at the wedding, this will give attendees a unique work of art that they can take home.

2) Dance Performance

It is common to hire a wedding band, but why not get the crowd going with dance? You can learn a piece to perform together as a couple, or surprise your partner with a flash mob-style performance prepared beforehand with your bridesmaids or groomsmen. Don’t have moves? Bring in a dance crew (try Silent Stars Entertainment or Dance Singapore), or invite everyone onto the dance floor. If you are worried about your guests feeling shy, invite a dance instructor to teach everyone some easy moves. Just remember to keep the “lesson” short— 10 minutes or under.

3) Play games

Possibilities abound here. If you are having an outdoor wedding, lawn games such as Ring Toss, Mini golf or Bowling encourage interaction and fun.

“Guess Who?” is a great game that everyone can play together while seated at their tables. An anointed person asks questions about the couple such as, “Who asked the other out first?” and “Who is messier?”. Everyone including the couple answers by raising either the stick with the bride’s face or the stick with the groom’s face.

If you are up for it, go all out by setting up a game room. Amenities like a pool table, carom or foosball will keep kids and adults alike occupied for hours.

4) Photo Booth

An official photographer can result in stiff-looking photos that take weeks to edit. With a photo booth, guests can relax and ham it up! They’ll get fun photos printed on the spot to take home. Props such as disguises (mustaches, spectacles, etc.), funny quotes and more encourage goofing of.

If props are too “jokey” or you prefer a more classy or traditional setting, look to a showpiece backdrop. This stunning wall made up of paper flowers is sure to captivate guests.

5) Singing

Express your love to your partner in the form of a song performance. Or consider letting your guests do some karaoke by taking over from the wedding band from time to time, or even having a karaoke machine (in a corner or separate room if noise is a concern).

6) Let your guests assemble treats

Stave of boredom with tables of treats like flowers, candy or tea leaves. Guests can fill jars or packages to take home. These are a great alternative to traditional wedding flavours, because guests get to pick what they like!
