A huge congratulations is in order for the group that worked so hard for this win. The Sri Dasmesh Band is also known as the Malaysian Sikh Band. They are the only Sikh band in South East Asia and one of the few elite Sikh bands in the world.

The group was created back in 1988 as a way to give the Sikh community something they could call their own. The group today has about over 40 members who are volunteers. Members range from working professionals to university students as well as school going teenagers.

Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band is the first ever Pipe Band from Malaysia to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships. This is also the first time the band has attended and competed in the championships since it began in 1930.

The Pipe Band has been working very hard for their performance which got them the winning title. Practice was often held three times a week in Kuala Lumpur for about two hours.

On top of that, all of them also practiced for at least an hour each day which they recorded and sent to each other. Many of them didn’t know music theory but the whole group was given classes. This made sure that everyone was on the same level of understanding the music.

It is through the hard work and dedication of every member in the group that they successfully showed the world what they are capable of. They have made Malaysians and the Sikh community proud.
