8 Ideal Cycling Spots To Check Out In Klang Valley

Let’s be honest here: the Klang Valley area isn’t exactly what we would call a bike-friendly place. Sure, we have few stretches of designated blue-coloured bicycle lanes. But really, how many of us locals will actually make full use of them? Still, don’t let that discourage you from taking part in cycling activities. Despite the city’s increasingly heavy traffic and overcrowded population, you can still find plenty of parks that offer cycling trails or pathways. And here are a selection of 8 Ideal Cycling Spots To Check Out in Klang Valley, all listed in alphabetical order.


1) Bukit Kiara Park @ TTDI, KL

Mountain bikers, rejoice! This is a great spot for those who want more than just a flat and straight path. That means you get to cycle downhill and challenge your biking skills while encountering steep trails. Apart from cycling, Bukit Kiara Park is also a favourite trail for joggers as well.

2) Forest Research Institute Malaysia @ Kepong, KL

Located around 16km northwest of Kuala Lumpur, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia a.k.a. FRIM isn’t exactly a public recreational park. But more of a place for the public to immerse in the breathtaking sights of man-made forests around the protected area. But FRIM happens to be a bike-friendly place, where they even offer bicycle rental services. Keep in mind that the trails aren’t all flat and straight but those who enjoy mountain biking would find FRIM a good spot.

3) Kepong Metropolitan Park @ Kepong, KL

Spanning 95 hectares, this huge recreational park also includes around 3km worth of cycling paths. The good news is, those who are simply looking for a casual cycling experience would be pleased with Kepong Metropolitan Park’s largely flat trails. Also a popular spot among many joggers and kite fliers while there’s a children’s playground to keep your kids occupied.

4) Perdana Botanical Garden @ Tasik Perdana, KL

Wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy a long stretch of cycling while checking out the breathtaking sights of all things green? Well, here’s one for you: the Perdana Botanical Garden or better known by the locals as Lake Gardens. It’s a scenic ride where you will pass by several Instagram-friendly landscaped gardens such as an orchid garden and a hibiscus garden. Not to mention it’s a perfect spot to go for a jogging or even a brisk morning walk with friends and family through the park.

5) Putrajaya Botanical Garden @ Putrajaya, Selangor

If you don’t mind travelling all the way to Putrajaya, there’s a spacious 230-acre botanical garden filled with trees, flowers and shrubs. Some of the attractions include a 170-metre-long canopy bridge, a heliconia trail, a lake boardwalk and the Moroccan Pavilion. Then, there’s the cycling path, complete with a bicycle rental service starting at RM2 per hour. They even provide three types of bicycles, depending on your preferences. This includes single and double sitter as well as a baby carrier.

6) Shah Alam National Botanical Park @ Shah Alam, Selangor

Otherwise known as Taman Botani Negara, this 1,295-hectare botanical park contains several attractions including Animal Park, Ornamental Garden and the famous Four Season Temperate House (Rumah Iklim Sederhana Empat Musim a.k.a. RISEM). The latter, of course, allows you to enjoy how is it feels like to experience four different “seasons” (winter, spring, summer and autumn) every three months in a year. Not to forget this is also an ideal spot to engage in cycling activities. And yes, bicycle rental is available as well. Cyclists who love a challenge would enjoy the park’s hilly and twisty terrains along the way.

7) Taman Jaya Park @ Seksyen 10, PJ

Despite the ever-growing Petaling Jaya area, there’s one park that remains a local favourite among many PJ dwellers. First built in the 1960s era, Taman Jaya Park has since undergone several upgrading works including gazebos and public toilets. While it’s a good place for jogging, Taman Jaya Park also provides a designated cycling route surrounded with lush greenery. Best of all, the park is conveniently located within walking distance from Amcorp Mall and LRT Taman Jaya.

8) The Central Park @ Desa ParkCity, KL

A man-made lake, a jogging path, manicured lawns — these are some of the attractions you can find at Desa ParkCity’s very own Central Park in Kuala Lumpur. Cyclists can also look forward to enjoying their bicycle ride along its 9-foot-wide pathway.
