8 Aesthetic Cafes in KL & Selangor (2023 Edition)

The ever-growing cafe scene just keeps on coming around KL and Selangor areas. Cafes aren’t just about serving good food but the overall environment matters too. The kind of environment that features a pleasant or eye-catching design ranging from its interior to the furniture. That being said, we have compiled our 2023 edition of 8 Aesthetic Cafes in KL & Selangor, all listed in alphabetical order.

1) Dough Days

A hidden gem located at Taman Ampang Hilir, Dough Days’ dark green and reddish orange wall interior evokes the feel and look of a cosy plant-themed cafe. The cafe even has a room, where you can pet the three cute resident cats: Miso, Sesame and Udon. They serve mainly comfort foods, covering brunch options such as the Dough Days Set. It comes with a buttery flaky croissant that you get to dip in the robust hot chocolate and whipped cream served separately. Other recommended menu items include homemade Danish pastries, Chicken & Croffles and the spicy-licious Chilli Crab Pasta paired with Mexican fried chicken.

Address: D7, Jalan Excella 2, Off Jalan Ampang Putra, Taman Ampang Hilir, 55100 Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

2) Kuro Coffee

The minimalist monochrome space reflects the no-nonsense brews of Kuro Coffee’s caffeine selections. Japanese speciality brews, to be exact, where they even source and roast their own coffees. The cafe opens to the public on weekdays but on weekends, you are required to make a reservation. They offer a la carte options ranging from the classic espresso to interesting filter coffee-based brews, namely the Osmanthus Sunrise Brew. Alternatively, go for their “coffee experience” set such as the highly-recommended Honduras Sherry Low-Temperature Fermentation Masaguara. Also, do look out on Kuro Coffee’s Instagram feed for its special menu update.

The Millerz Square outlet boasts a sleek, clean-cut and brightly-lit silver interior with plenty of glass windows, allowing the sunlight to pour in. More than just a cafe, this outlet also houses a coffee academy. The newly-opened Manyflow Artisanal Coffee at Bandar Botanic Klang simply has the flow of a calming interior. The space includes plenty of indoor plants with inviting earthy colours seen in its table sets, walls and counters. Sit back and relax with one of Manyflow’s speciality coffees and have a bite at one of their croissants, cakes or pastries. Or if you are hungry, the cafe got you covered as well, namely the comforting Salmon Balls served with a savoury-sweet pumpkin mash, passionfruit cream and chopped cherry tomatoes.

5) MERG

Amidst the suburban Taman United neighbourhood lies MERG, a minimalist cafe adorned with mostly white decor. The use of glass windows gives way to natural sunlight during the daytime, making it ideal for Insta lovers. They open as early as 7.30 am, offering wholesome breakfast staples such as Avo Egg Dough (sourdough with avocado slices, hard-boiled eggs, sliced tomatoes and green apples with honey dressing) and buttery Eggy Croissant. MERG also offers entrées from the signature Seafood Spicy Creamy Linguine to the classic Fish & Chips using tilapia fish.

Address: No 117-1, Jalan Sepadu, Taman United, 58200 Kuala Lumpur.

6) PV Manja

Upon stepping into Bandar Menjalara’s PV Manja, you’ll be greeted with the cafe’s chic white interior. And not to forget, an overall decor that gives you a relaxing vibe no matter if you are dining solo or with your loved one. Or simply catching up with your friend(s) for a cuppa or two. PV Manja has several foods to offer here — both heavy and light — such as the All Day Big Breakfast, Grilled Chicken Chop and Duplet (fish luncheon meat stick with fries). Assorted baked goods from hot puff pastries to bagels, croissants and sliced cakes are available too.

Address: 60, Jalan 8/62a, Bandar Menjalara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur.

7) Sekalf

With just a few walking distances from Pasar Seni MRT, you don’t have to worry about finding a parking spot in the ever-bustling Petaling Street. That’s the good thing about visiting Sekalf, the two-storey cafe boasting casually chic interiors, complete with exposed brick walls and strategically-placed indoor plants. Their menu consists of Asian and Western dishes such as Sekalf’s best-selling Penang Fried Kuey Teow and Con & Cheese with Crispy Beef Bacon. Remember to leave some room for dessert, where they offer choices like the Victoria Sponge Cake and Mango Berries Crumble Tart. Here’s an interesting trivia about Sekalf: The cafe is creatively named as such by having it spelt backwards from “Flakes”. It was the same team who also managed the latter’s popular cafe at The Hub SS2.

Address: 208, Jalan Tun H S Lee, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur.

8) WOWNANA

This small space of WOWNANA within PJ’s Jiospace boasts a warm and inviting interior that looks pleasing to the eyes. Interestingly, they used to be an online store before they took a leap to establish a brick-and-mortar outlet. So, what’s their speciality? Guilt-free vegan pastries and baked goods. One of WOWNANA’s must-tries has to be its Signature Banana Bread — a heavenly combo of moist banana bread filled with walnuts, chocolate chips and of course, ripe bananas. They also have other scrumptious choices like Danish pastries (strawberry/blueberry), doughnuts and cinnamon rolls.

Address: Outlet 11 Jiospace, Lot 1, Jalan 19/1b, Sekysen 19, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
