7 Best Places To Chill Out With Live Jazz Music In Klang Valley

The harmony, the ambience, the crooning… there’s something about jazz that can either calm your soul after a long day of work or energise you with a more lively beat. You can always listen to jazz music in the comfort of your home. Or if you want the real deal, why not join crowds at a jazz bar while watching the live performances as you enjoy your meal or sip a glass of wine? Here are 7 recommended places in alphabetical order that you might want to chill out in Klang Valley.

1) Alexis Bistro & Wine Bar

Alexis Bistro needs no introduction. It’s one of the most recognisable jazz bars in the Klang Valley that has been around for over 20 years, offering a roster of local and international artists every week. More specifically, every Friday and Saturday night where you get to see them take centre stage and fill the place with live jazz beats of all kinds. Not to mention the cosy interior and the warm, inviting ambience that complements well with the place. Alexis Bistro doesn’t forget about the gastronomic parts either, as they serve eclectic menus ranging from wood-fired pizzas to Asian food varieties like Vietnamese beef noodles and kerabu fried rice. Table reservations can be made right here and keep in mind that no shorts and slippers are allowed upon entering the premise. For weekly live performances, check out their official website or Facebook page below for updates.

2) Bobo Kuala Lumpur

Bobo is one sneaky restaurant. All the warm interior that welcomes the guests with contemporary European dishes like black Angus ribeye, duck confit and foie gras isn’t just about satisfying your tummy. Once you are done, don’t forget to head upstairs through a “hideout” that leads to a piano lounge. It’s like entering into a different world, where posh decor and bar menu awaits you. And this is where all the jazz vibes begin, with the likes of Elvira Arul and Melissa Indot livening the night on stage.

3) Mezze Bar & Bistro

The Damansara Heights-based Mezze Bar & Bistro offers the best of both worlds when it comes to good food and music. Start off with lip-smacking appetizers like the smoky “Sausage Platter” or the robust “Mutton Varuval” served with deep-fried lotus bun. The main course is equally a gastronomic dream, with eclectic choices like the signature slow-braised “Papardelle Oxtail” ribbon pasta and the tummy-filling “Roast Piglet with Mustard Marinade”. Leave some room for dessert as well with sweet endings like the rich Valrhona “Chocolate Royal” mousse cake or the buttery and sweet “Crepes Suzette” pancake. If you are here on Fridays and Saturdays, you will be entertained by the likes of local and international artists playing live jazz while enjoying your food.

7) The Bar @ The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur

“Classy” is the best word to describe The Bar at the historic Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The spacious interior reminiscent of an upscale 1920s Art Deco-style, complete with leather bar stools and chandelier on the gold-leafed domed ceiling. But it was the piano at the centre of the bar, which literally the centre of the attraction for The Solianos performing classic jazz numbers.
