Global Day of Discovery

All around the world, Renaissance Hotels are inviting travellers to Discover This Way, a new campaign that kicked off on 16th May 2019, also known as Global Day of Discovery (GDOD). 2019 marks GDOD’s 8th year, and this new campaign is about delivering the unexpected to guests. By collaborating with local business(es) and/or notable personalities, Renaissance Hotels uncover local haunts for guests, allowing them to immerse in a true local experience. Not only that, but guests also get perks from the hotel’s local partners!

Discover This Way – KL

On the 16th of May, we had the opportunity to attend the launch of GDOD in Renaissance Hotel KL. Renaissance Hotel KL partnered up with Jadi Batek, a batik gallery in KL itself, but more on that later. At the launch, Jati Batek set up a stall which displayed various batik merchandise for purchase, and offered guests a chance to make their own batik. With this collaboration, guests will receive a discount voucher of 20%, should they shop at Jadi Batek.

Besides that, a local band playing local music was also on-site to entertain the guests, and local food such as satay and lemang were also provided. However, the real highlight is the set of “localised” drinks, creatively thought of and prepared in-house! For alcoholic drinks, you can have a choice of Gin Asam Belanda or Asam Boi Whisky Smash. There was even a demonstration of how the latter drink was prepared in a bar ritual, and everyone really enjoyed the refreshing drink – it’s a must-try! For those who don’t drink, don’t worry. They also have a Bentong Ginger Tonic, which doesn’t sound great at first, but trust us – it’s good!
