It happens when stomach acid and food particles from the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) escape from your stomach and travel back to your throat. Certain food and drinks such as the aforementioned fried food, spicy food, coffee, soda and citrus fruits can trigger acid reflux. Even other causes like stress and eating too fast can cause this. While you may treat acid reflux with over-the-counter medications such as Gaviscon and Omeprazole, there are several home remedies that are able to relieve the symptom.


1) Ginger

There are two ways you can consume ginger. First, slice the ginger thinly and soaked into vinegar for days to make pickled ginger. You can chew a few pieces after a meal to improve your digestion.

Second, you can make fresh ginger tea and drink it while it still hot. If you can’t handle the spiciness of the ginger, you can always add a teaspoon of honey to sweeten the tea. But a word of warning, though: avoid ginger tea if you are taking medication for high blood pressure and blood thinning.

2) Apple Cider Vinegar

Sometimes, you need to fight acid with acid. In this case, apple cider vinegar may help alleviate the acid reflux. This is because apple cider vinegar helps stabilise the pH level in your body and neutralise your stomach acid. You can mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water and drink it. If the taste of the apple cider vinegar is too much for you, you can sweeten it with honey.

It’s true what people said about this crunchy red fruit: An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Like apple cider vinegar, apple is able to neutralise your stomach acid and relieve acid reflux. You can either eat it whole or cut into slices.

Aloe vera is often synonymous with moisturisers and other beauty products. But did you know that aloe vera is also effective in relieving acid reflux? You can consume aloe vera by drinking its juice. The aloe vera juice not only improves digestion but also detoxify your body as well. You can purchase aloe vera juice in the pharmacies or health stores.

6) Baking Soda

Baking helps neutralise stomach acid soda into your body and restore your balanced pH level. You can use baking soda by diluting half a teaspoon in a glass of warm water. Drink it about 2 times a day to ease the symptom. Just keep in mind not to exceed your intake more than 3 days.

Cumin seeds aren’t just restricted to a traditional spice for Indian cuisines. This well-known spice is also effective against acid reflux, as it helps to reduce gas and improves digestion. You can grind cumin seeds into a fine powder and mix them in a glass of water. Drink it after each meal.
