When it comes to departmental stores there are probably a few staple ones that quickly come to mind. Aeon, Isetan, Metrojaya, Marks & Spencer, and of course Parkson. Parkson has been around since they first opened Sungei Wang Plaza in 1987. But is it time to say goodbye to the popular departmental store?

At the moment, the Parkson located in MyTOWN Cheras is having a massive clearance sale. The announcement was made via a post on the store’s Facebook page. To add, the sale will be ongoing until the 2nd of February 2020.

Furthermore, Parkson is encouraging everyone to grab whatever they can at affordable prices. In fact, this is a great opportunity to get some new clothes and more for the coming Chinese New Year!

Unfortunately this clearance sale also means that the Parkson outlet in MyTOWN Shopping Centre will be closing down. The past two years have seen a total of six outlets closing down in their respective locations.

In 2017, Parkson closed their stores in Megamall Kuantan as well as Melaka Mall after operating for 10 years. Meanwhile, 2018 saw the closure of stores in Maju Junction and the very first store in Sungei Wang.

Meanwhile, on the 17th of February this year the outlet in Suria KLCC which took up 126,000 sq ft said goodbye to customers. The outlet had been operating for 21 years in this location.

Moreover, on the 30th of June the Parkson M Square Mall located in Puchong closed after just 18 months of operation. The 349,999 sq ft departmental store was unlike any other as it also had a gourmet supermarket and food hall.

The reason behind these recent closures is supposedly that the brand is trying to cut losses. While the brand is cautious and selective in choosing their locations, they also have to be firm. That’s why when sales do not meet expectations the store is closed down and the brand moves on.
