With the usage of handphones, tablets, and computers on a daily basis, it will cause your eyes to deteriorate slowly. It is important to look after your eyes, the window to your souls. Here are 10 ways to look after your eyes.

By getting at least 30 minutes of exercise three times per week, you can reduce your chances of developing serious eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration.

2) Eating right
To maintain our eyes health, we should always eat healthy. Vitamins C and E, Zinc, Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for healthy eyes.

3) Visit your Eye care Practitioner on a regular basis
It is advisable to visit your Eye care Practitioner every 6 months to a year to get your eyes checked. This way any abnormalities can be detected quickly and can be corrected.

4) Get enough rest and do not spend too much time on the computers
It is important to have enough rest. An adult should always have about 7-8 hours of sleep daily. This is so that you would not strain your eyes. Also another way is by not using the computer excessively. Always take a break when sitting in front of the computer.

5) Protect your eyes from UV rays
UV also known as Ultraviolet Rays are very harmful to your eyes. With long exposure to UV Rays, it can cause certain complications such as Cataract. Having a good pair of sunglasses or spectacles can help you block these unwanted UV rays.

6) Remove your contact lenses at the end of the day
Contact Lenses are a norm today. 50% of the population wearing prescription glasses do wear contact lenses at the same time. Some of them abuse their eyes by wearing contact lenses to sleep. This action is very harmful to our eyes because it can cause infection or even worse corneal ulcers.

7) Having enough lights
When you are using the computers, phones, TVs or tablets make sure there is sufficient lightings. The vast majority loves to use their digital devices in the dark, which is bad for the eyes. This is because your pupil dilates in the dark areas and would cause more light to actually hurt your eyes.
8) Use cucumber to reduce puffiness
Press cold cucumber slices gently against eyelids for 10-15 minutes before going to sleep at night to help treat and prevent eyelid and under eye puffiness.

9) Use allergen-reducing eye drops sparingly
Using an allergen-reducing eye drop during allergy season may help ‘get the red out’ and sooth itchiness, but daily use can actually make the problem worse. It can cause something called rebound redness, which results in excessive eye redness because eyes no longer respond to eye drops.
10) Remember to blink
People blink less when they’re looking at a screen, causing drier eyes. Make a conscious effort to blink every 30 seconds when you’re sitting down and looking at your computer screen to combat dry eyes.
