There are two types of people during this time of the year: either you really love Christmas, or… you’re the Grinch. Okay, even if you’re not a big fan of Christmas (but why?), there’s no harm in listening to a few Christmas songs to just get into the mood a little. On the other hand, if you’re Team Never-Too-Early-For-Christmas, you might have been already blasting Christmas songs since November, are we right? Whichever you are, here’s our list of must-listen-to Christmas songs, just in case you missed out on one or two!

1) Jingle Bell Rock

There’s nothing like a good ol’ twist of music on two of our favourite words: “jingle” and “bell”. Not only is this an easygoing, relaxing song to ease you into the festive mood, but its lyrics are simple enough as well! *starts singing jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock*

2) Here Comes Santa Claus

Excuse us, but Christmas isn’t complete without Santa Claus! Regardless of age, everyone still loves Santa Claus, who represents what else but gifts! The opening phrase bearing the title itself is sure to send everyone into excitement immediately!

3) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Ah, but what would Santa Claus arrive in if not his sleigh powered by his reindeers? As a Christmas staple, it only makes sense to have a song for the reindeers, represented by none other than Rudolph!

4) Joy to the World

With references from the Bible, Joy to the World seems like a religious song, but its lively melody and beat makes it popular among all who love Christmas. During this festive season, there truly is nothing better than joy to the world!

5) The First Noel

You know what’d be perfect while listening to this song? Ideally, bundled up and sitting by a large window watching snow gently fall while sipping a hot beverage of your choice. Unfortunately not applicable in Malaysia, but one can hope to do so one day.

6) Silent Night

Come on, you’ve got to know this one! Silent Night is probably the ultimate Christmas Eve classic. Did you know? It originated in Austria way back in 1818, and has stuck around since then, never losing its popularity.

7) Feliz Navidad

Spanish for “Merry Christmas”, Feliz Navidad is one of the most cheerful, festive songs on this list (or of all Christmas songs, to be honest). You really can’t celebrate Christmas without going “Feliz Navidad, ba ba ba ba ba”!

8) Winter Wonderland

Y’know, all is good for those who are able to experience a White Christmas. Meanwhile, the rest of us will just have to make do with this song, and use a whole lot of imagination to construct our very own winter wonderland.

9) It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

This is the perfect song for those who absolutely can’t wait for Christmas; you can start playing it as early as you wish. Recommendation: play it while you set up your Christmas tree. That’ll give you major Christmas vibes for sure!

10) Deck the Halls

What? You don’t mean you’re stopping at just decorating the tree? Plus, it’s probably the best song to keep your spirits up even as you teeter on the ladder sticking sparkly things on the walls/ceiling. ‘Tis the season to be jolly as you deck the halls with boughs of holly!

11) Frosty the Snowman

Reindeers, a sleigh, Santa Claus, decorations… what’s next? Right, a snowman, of course! Once again, if you can’t build a snowman of your own, just listen to this song and use your imagination!

12) All I Want For Christmas Is You

There are many versions of this song, but we favour the Mariah Carey one. The moderate pace of the opening coupled with Mariah taking her time with her vocals gives off a yearning vibe, before the beat picks up with merry jingling, and suddenly, it transforms into a confident anthem!

13) Last Christmas

For those nursing a broken heart yet still want to feel kind of festive without it being overwhelmingly cheerful, this is it. Your romance may or may not have lasted for only a day, but that’s really not the point, is it?

14) Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town

Need an excuse for your kids to settle down and behave themselves? Tell them the story of Santa Claus and put on this song for reinforcements. We don’t guarantee it will work, but it’s worth a shot. Otherwise, this is a Christmas classic as well, so enjoy!

15) Ring in the Season

Unless you’re a true, super die-hard Disney fan, we’re guessing you haven’t heard of this one. Brought to you by the cast of Frozen, Ring in the Season is where Disney meets Christmas, and it cannot get anymore perfect than that! Trust us, you’ll be hooked!

And that concludes our list of must-listen-to Christmas songs! Which one is your favourite, and when did you start playing Christmas songs? Share your Christmas stories with us in the comments below, and because it’s never too early, Merry Christmas!
