The new mobile-only plan was first rolled out in India back in July to test the waters. Upon receiving such good feedback, the programme was launched in Malaysia as a test as well. Now, the plan will be officially available to anyone.

Furthermore, Malaysia will be the first country in South East Asia to receive the mobile-only plan option. At just RM17, the plan is significantly cheaper than the basic plan which is RM33 a month.

However, take note that this subscription plan is only available for your mobile devices. This includes smartphones, tablets, and iPads. Yes, unfortunately that means you won’t be able to stream on your laptop or smart TV.

Just like the basic plan, the mobile subscription plan can support up to 5 profiles. So you can share it with your family and friends. However, you can only stream on one device at a time so if you’re watching a movie, another profile won’t be able to stream anything.

It makes sense that Netflix would offer this new plan in Malaysia since we are quite a mobile centric market. In fact, 7 out of 10 Malaysians are already streaming and downloading via their smartphones.

The app also caters to budget smartphone users as it will adapt it user interface to load faster on budget smartphones. Please take note that this mobile-only plan will only allow for streaming in standard definition (around 540p resolution).

While you might be sacrificing the high quality video playback, you’re also saving quite a big buck with this new plan.
