Ais kacang (ice kacang/ABC), cendol, ice cream and so on… Kuching certainly has plenty to offer when it comes to desserts. If you’re a self-proclaimed sweet tooth or are just hunting for some cool, sweet treats, here’s where you can cool down at these 8 dessert spots in Kuching!
Here’s a popular food court called Jubilee Ground Hawker Centre, which has a stall selling ice kacang a.k.a. ABC. That stall in question is called Ah Tan Ais Kacang. What makes them such a go-to stall among many locals has to do with their creative variations of ice kacang. Among them includes White Lady (mixed fruits with sweet corn & lemon), Metahon (sweet & sour ice with lime) and even Watermelon Milo. Of course, there’s always the good ol’ classic Ice Kacang to choose from instead.
Address: Stall No. 5, Jubilee Ground Hawker Centre, 93450 Kuching, Sarawak.
Here’s another recommended ais kacang place in Kuching called Swee Kang Ais Kacang. It occupies two shop lots, where they sell not only the usual ABC but also others such as Kacang Susu and Kacang Chendol, just to name a few. Their classic ABC itself is already good enough with all the usual ingredients included and best of all, it doesn’t taste overly sweet.
Address: Jalan Kulas – Haji Taha Interchange, Kampung Bandarshah, 93400 Kuching, Sarawak.
3) Ah Yong ABC Ice Kantong
Ever heard of this local dessert called “ice kantong”? It’s ABC but instead of serving it in a bowl, you will get shaved ice on a stick. Pretty cool, eh? To get your hand on this ice kantong, try the one at the Ah Yong ABC Ice Kantong stall, where they layer the shaved ice with the sweetness of multi-coloured syrups. Other than ice kantong, they sell cendol as well.
Address: Sideway, Wayang St., 93000 Kuching, Sarawak.
Love ice cream? Then, you’ve got to try one at the legendary Sunny Hill Ice-Cream. They serve the soft-serve type of ice cream in a cone or in a cup. Depending on the day, they have different flavours available ranging from the classic Chocolate, Vanilla & Strawberry to Corn and even Pandan. They are pretty affordable too (it’s only RM2.40 for a large cone of ice cream!). Their menu also includes other varieties like Banana Split and Ice Cream Sandwich.

Here’s a dessert place where you can enjoy different types of shaved ice. Among their signatures include Watermelon & Honeydew Fruits Shaved Ice and Mango Shaved Ice. To date, Borneo Fruit Shaved Ice has four branches in Sarawak including Metrocity in Kuching, Miri, Mukah, and Bintulu.

7) Cendol MAMI
If there’s one thing about Cendol MAMI worth mentioning here, it has to be their different types of cendol. This includes everything from cincau (grass jelly) to fruit cocktails, kacang tumbuk (peanut candy) and buah kabung among others. Their classic Cendol Biasa is equally a must-try on the menu, offering shaved-ice goodness of cendol, red beans, and coconut milk.

Cocopuri is where you can get a refreshing coconut milk-based ice cream. And they churn them using only natural ingredients with no added preservatives or artificial colouring whatsoever. Not to mention coconut milk itself is naturally dairy-free, making it ideal for those with lactose intolerance. You can’t go wrong with their original coconut flavour or try others like gula apong, pandan kaya, and mango. You have the option to enjoy it in a buttery waffle cone, cup or even in an old-school ice cream sandwich style. Alternatively, consider pairing your favourite ice cream with a coconut or flavoured (chocolate chip/pandan) waffle.
