Beef and chicken may have been the most common patties used for burgers. But these days, you find meat-free or meatless burgers that are designed for vegans out there. These plant-based burgers contain patties that taste like meat. So, if you are looking to locate these types of joints or are simply curious to try them, keep reading as we list down 7 plant-based burger spots in Klang Valley.

1) RightSide

The predominantly red-and-white decor that defined RightSide at 163 Retail Park and Sri Petaling sure stimulates one’s appetite. RightSide — formerly known as Amazon Vegan — stays true to its “Feel Good Fast Food” motto, offering delicious plant-based burgers and tacos. Beyond its inviting interior, RightSide’s burger menu consists of its in-house Zero Meat options (meatless lamb, beef & chicken).

For instance, satisfy your hunger pang with the Double Smash (Zero Meat of your choice, melted “cheese”, vegan mayo and other add-ons sandwiched between pillowy vegan buns). Need something spicy? They have Curry Power — a quarter-pounder Zero Meat patty layered with homemade curry power sauce. You can also go for The Little Vegans — three mini burgers that allow you to taste three different Zero Meat patties.

Address:

(163 Retail Park) GF-02, 8 Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.

(Sri Petaling) No 147-1, Jalan Radin Bagus, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, 57000 Kuala Lumpur.

2) Sala

Sala combines Tex-Mex-inspired and local menus but with a plant-based twist. They have vegan burgers too such as the meatless-patty Phuture Burger served with tangy coleslaw and Togarashi fries.

Bored with the same old burger buns? Try the toasted bagel for a change as Sala transforms the doughnut-shaped roll into a vegan burger delight packed with mushroom asada, pico de gallo, nacho cheese and more.

Address: A-G-3A, Galeria Hartamas, No 21 Jalan 26A/70A, Desa Sri Hartamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.

3) myBurgerLab

myBurgerLab may have been a meat haven for beef and chicken burger lovers. But that doesn’t mean this ever-popular gourmet burger joint neglects the vegan crowd. Take Vivien’s Husband, for instance (don’t worry, no human is harmed during the making of this burger). Between the signature charcoal bun lies deep-fried whole portobello mushroom with a juicy pineapple ring, natural cheese and honey mustard, just to name a few.

Can’t get enough of mushrooms? How about Shroom Shroom Shroom? It comes with not one but two fungi: a fried whole portobello mushroom and sauteed mushrooms. If you prefer something tangy, pick Mr Brightside — a portobello mushroom-based burger layered with asam boi pickled onions and pickled mayo.

4) Spade’s Burger

Spade’s Burger knows a thing or two when comes to juicy pork and beef and, to a certain extent, chicken burgers. But this Penang-based burger joint, which has several outlets in Klang Valley, also catered to vegan customers. This is particularly evident with its Shroomception — an apparent play-on-word of the “Inception” movie. Sink your teeth into Spade’s signature charcoal burger bun and taste the savoury delights of crispy mushroom wedges and sauteed mixed mushrooms. The added cheddar cheese and its signature sauce round up this satisfying Shroomception. Best paired with Spade’s Fries.

The latter, for instance, is packed with various textures and tastes such as portobello mushrooms, roasted walnuts and chickpeas served with mixed fries and fresh greens salad. Alternatively, spice it up with the Spicy “Chicky” Burger that consists of soy plant patties, pickles, lettuce, tomato slices and mayo chipotle.
