A lot of cafes, restaurants, and dessert parlours have really been experimenting with lots of different types of flavours. Some of them are nostalgic like the white rabbit craze, and some are just fusions with local flavours. A cafe in in George Town, Penang has recently taken it to a new level. They have introduced a Cheesecake stuffed with century eggs and topped with ikan bilis and peanuts. Yum?
Where to Find it
This is not the first time that Moody Cow Cafe has been experimenting with their cheesecake flavours. Moody Cow offers about 20 different cheesecakes on the menu. They already have crazy flavours that bring a Malaysian twist.
These include Salty Egg Yolk Cheesecake with Chicken Floss, Musang King Durian Cheesecake, and Cempedak Cheesecake. Which one would you try? The Cempedak Cheesecake is their bestseller.
The New Flavour
Those who eat this new cheesecake will find a whole century egg inside the rich cheesy filling. And it has a chocolate base and is covered with ikan bilis and peanuts. Are we getting an influence from Nasi Lemak sides?
As for now, not many reviews are available so you might just have to try it out yourself to be sure. One review by a blogger named Rebecca Saw has mentioned that the combination of cream cheese with the century egg, ikan bilis, and peanuts are an acquired taste. You can read her review here.
How Much is it?
Be aware of the price though. It has not been confirmed but one slice of this cake can cost you up to RM44. Would you spend that much on a slice of cake? Also, if you do decide to test out this interesting flavour, know that the cake is also subject to availability. The cafe does not make it everyday.
If not, you can check out all the interesting cake flavours available that are a bit more friendly on the wallet. The other cakes are priced between RM20 and RM25 per slice. It’s a little steep but the sizes seem quite big and is enough to be shared with friends.
