As we gear up for another fun-filled time at MURFEST 2017, here are some classes you should definitely check out. They consist of everything from sound healing, dance classes to yoga, taught by highly skilled instructors. Here are 10 Exciting Classes You Should Sign Up for at MURFEST 2017!


1) Broga Yoga – for Men! – Daniel Chandranayagam

For the men who need it, there’s Broga® Yoga. It’s said to be “strong, energetic, and challenging”, and combines core-strengthening, muscle-toning, cardio-working, stress-reducing and clarity-enhancing yoga postures with actual fitness exercises. You’ll be treated to a rewarding and safe experience. This workshop will be taught on Saturday, November 4th, by Daniel Chandranayagam, Malaysia’s first licensed Broga® Yoga Instructor.

2) Sufi Whirling – Shervin Boloorian

Sufi Whirling is often associated with Istanbul’s Whirling Dervishes, whose mesmerizing movements have been captured on film for captive audiences the world over. Now, you’ll get to truly learn about it on a more intrinsic level. Shervin Boloorian will help you to explore Sufi Whirling with live music, chanting and mystical poetry. You’ll see it’s more than just a dance, but a form of meditation too.

3) HoopYogini From The Core – Jocelyn Gordon

Have you ever thought of combining Yoga with the playful act of hula hooping? If it’s never crossed your mind before you may want to check out Jocelyn Gordon’s workshop, where she’ll do exactly that. This workout burns 400-600 calories an hour, and is both strengthening and soothing. Jocelyn’s workshop is suitable for all, and no prior experience in hoop, dance, yoga or meditation is needed.

4) VeraFlow – Liubou Lozovskaya

VeraFlow combines dancing, balancing and stretching to create a new workout method that’s unique and relaxing. It will help you to strengthen your muscles and will uplift your mind and spirit too. Liubou Lozovskaya will be teaching the workshop, to be held on Friday, November 3rd at 2pm.

5) Le Barre – Cassandra Ong

LeBARRE™ combines ballet, strength training and yoga with the Lebert Equalizer – a workout tool used for building strength. What you get is a full-body workout that’s dynamic and low-impact. It’s a class suitable for any level, and you don’t need any dance experience or ballet tights to join in. Certified fitness professional and dance teacher Cassandra Ong will be in charge of this class.

6) Anahata Chakra Vinyasa (Masterclass) – Les Leventhal

The Anahata Chakra Vinyasa Masterclass will focus on “heart openers and backbends”. It is a workshop that will be suited for beginners and advanced practitioners alike, as it focuses on a specific area of practice. Let Les Leventhal guide you through this technique, paying attention not only to physical factors, but psychological and spiritual as well. Awareness on pranayama and ujjayi breathing will also be a focus here, as the lungs and breathing are a vital part of this exercise.

7) Flex & Dance: A Runner’s Guide – Dee Dee Mahmood

Celebrity trainer Dee Dee Mahmood will be conducting Flex & Dance: A Runner’s Guide on Saturday, November 4th at noon. This class is perfect for those who want to improve their running skills, as Dee Dee shares scientific knowledge that will help you up your tempo. It’s a class that’s suitable for beginners, occasional runners and even running enthusiasts.

8) Dhol & Bhangra Workshop – Keeran D

Dhol drums are prominently used in bhangra music, and in this workshop, you will learn how both bhangra and Dhol drums are an important part of this artform. Participants will get the opportunity to learn how to play the drums, and also dance. Trainer Keeran D is a Master Drummer, and is regarded as South-East Asia’s Best Dhol Player. His workshop will be held on Sunday, November 5th.

9) Cuban Rumba – Amar Singh

The Cuban Rumba is perfect for dance lovers who want to improve their skills on the dance floor. It combines elements of African dance and drumming with Spanish influences. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of the dance with footwork and body techniques. You will also learn to be more aware of your body and musicality. Choreographer and instructor Amar Singh is well versed in several dance styles, and is a leading figure in the Malaysian dance industry.

10) Embodied Dance – Daniel Rojas

Embodied Dance is a technique developed by Daniel Rojas, who has over 25 years of experience as a dancer and performer. This dance can be used as a form of physical and emotional healing, and combines musicality, yoga, movement and emotions. There are also elements of breakdancing, capoeira, parkour and popping involved, making it a dynamic experience.
