There are so many types of tea available nowadays. From regular black tea to green tea to oolong tea and the wildly popular, ubiquitous bubble milk tea, you could choose a different tea for each day of the month and never have to repeat. However, today we’re going to be looking at flower tea. Specifically, the pros and cons of consuming flower tea. Let’s dive right into it!


Pro No. 1: Maintains Overall Health

Flower teas are high in Vitamin C & B2 content, and also contain folic acid, iron, calcium and other vitamins and minerals. Even though flower teas are categorised as “tea”, they do not contain caffeine like regular black tea or other Chinese teas. Furthermore, flower teas such as rose tea have slimming properties, aiding in digestion and burning of fat. Depending on what teas you drink, they could also have antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

Pro No. 2: Stabilises Emotions

If you have a short temper and always suffer from headaches and dizziness, it could be due to your liver acting up. Apparently, there’s a link between your liver and your emotions, and one way to calm yourself (and your liver) down to to drink some flower tea. Chrysanthemum tea is known for its calming, soothing and “cooling” properties, so you could try it out!

Con No. 1: May Be Too “Cooling”

From the angle of traditional Chinese medicine, flower teas are considered “cooling”. Too much consumption may trigger allergies, coughing, or similar conditions, especially for the ladies. However, to rectify this, all you have to do is just add in some other ingredients such as Chinese herbs to balance it up!

Con No. 2: Not Suitable for Everyone

Even though flower teas are considered highly nutritious, remember to know your limits. Sure, flower teas aid in digestion, weight loss and overall well-being, but remember that not everyone can drink flower teas with little to no effect. If you are affected by certain health conditions, it’s best to consult your GP or a medicine practitioner before consuming flower tea. A simple rule of thumb: consume in moderation!
