Mother’s Day Gift Guide x Support Local Businesses

Friendly reminder: Mother’s Day is just around the corner. With the whole MCO thing going on (and on and on), it’s easy to lose track of time. Also, gift shopping this year could be slightly troublesome since you can’t actually go out and shop. However, you still can do some online shopping and get a gift, thankfully. While you’re shopping for a gift, why not support these local businesses at the same time? They sure could use your patronage, and you’ll still get your gift! Check out our Mother’s Day Gift Guide, the Support Local Businesses edition!

1) Cake

Unless your mum isn’t a fan of dessert or sweet treats, you can hardly go wrong with cake. Currently, there are quite a number of cake delivery services, and you can choose from Cake Together, Eat Cake Today and Junandus just to name a few. Some of them have even got a dedicated “Mother’s Day” category prepared, so you’re all set with cake!

2) Homegrown Cosmetics

Sure, most people covet big, international brands, and that’s okay! But during this time, why not get a little something closer to home? There are actually plenty of homegrown cosmetic brands you can try out, and we even have our very own list of Top 10 Homegrown Cosmetic Brands in Malaysia! This list was voted for by the public (you!), so you know you’re in good hands with this list.

3) Activewear

Now more than ever, we’re reminded of the fact that we should do all we can to stay healthy. One of the ways is to keep active! If you’re a daughter, you could even get matching activewear with your mum so you guys can sweat it out together, mother-daughter style! Check out Banana Fighter or Liberty Active, both local activewear brands.

4) Jewellery

Most ladies love accessories and jewellery, and we’re sure your mum likes them too! Minimalist Lab is a local jewellery brand, and they already have a Mother’s Day collection ready. Choose from gold, silver or rose gold colour schemes, and type of jewellery from necklaces, bracelets and earrings. You can also check out JYW Handmade Jewelry for handmade pieces, where they mostly work with jade!

5) Flowers

Another classic gift that won’t go wrong, flowers can instantly brighten up your mum’s day, and they make a good home decoration as well. Florists are aplenty nationwide, and most of them are gearing up for the upcoming Mother’s Day already. However, if you’re looking for something just a little more long-lasting than fresh flowers, you can also try out preserved flowers. To get started, you can check out this list of Best Preserved Flower Florists in KL & Selangor.

6) Skincare/Bodycare

More important than cosmetics is skincare! No matter at what age, skincare remains an integral part of a woman’s daily routine. We’re not saying totally ditch the usual brand your mum uses, but now’s a good time to try out one or two local products, perhaps as added stepped to the routine. You can check out Root Remedies or Claire Organics, where both have an array of skincare and body products you can get!

7) Photobook

For a truly personalised gift, your best option would be Photobook Malaysia. You can always go for a good old photobook, or there are plenty of other options to choose from. Mugs, calendars, home decor, postcards… you name it. Especially if your mum is a sentimental kind of person, you could get her so many things with your family photos printed on them! Currently, Photobook Malaysia is ready with their Mother’s Day selection, so head over and start browsing now!

8) A Massage

Sure, you could give her one, or you could also book a massage with Healthland, and have your mum redeem it after the MCO. Healthland calls it “chup” your deals now, and the “chups” are valid for 12 months. You can visit Healthland’s Facebook page for more details, and then click on the accompanying link to make your booking.

9) Bird’s Nest

Ah, there’s nothing that says that you love and appreciate your mum like bird’s nest does. Prized for its health and rejuvenation properties, bird’s nest could be tedious to cook from start to end, and that’s where ready-made bird’s nest comes in. Check out Shandon Birdnest, where they have boiled bird’s nest, gift sets, or dry bird’s nest if you want to try your hand at cooking it. Besides that, they also provide bird’s nest for events as well!

10) Scented Candles

There’s a reason why people love scents so much, and scientifically, we’re not the best person to ask. But people do love scents! Scents can influence your mood, and that’s why there are a variety of scents that have different effects on people. So if you want to create some scents around the house for your mum, try some scented candles by Wicket Candles!

11) Whip Up A Meal

This is easily the best thing you can do for your mum. Chances are, she’s been doing most (if not all) of the cooking this MCO/all the time, so now it’s time to take over. Even if you’re a total newbie chef, there are plenty of YouTube tutorials you can follow. And maybe you don’t even have to cook a full meal – you could just make a simple dessert; a gesture to let your mum know just how much you appreciate her. The below video is a Mother’s Day special for last year, but if you haven’t tried this yet, you could definitely do so!

We hope you enjoyed this Mother’s Day gift guide, and found a suitable gift while also being able to support some local businesses. Happy shopping for Mother’s Day, and we hope you have an enjoyable one with mama!
