First Coffee, Now Alcohol. What Won’t Coca-Cola Do?

Coca-cola recently announced that they are introducing Coke Coffee and it was an interesting move. And now they’ve decided to one up themselves by announcing that they are launching a new line of mixers. These mixers are meant to be paired with hard liquor, kind of like how the normal Coca-cola is mixed with rum. But this new line has interesting flavours that help to enhance the taste of the alcohol.

Coca-Cola Signature Mixers

There are four flavours that will be launched, and they are meant to be paired with different liquors ranging from rums to whiskies. Herbal, Spicy, Woody, and Smoky are the four offered flavours and they sure do sound interesting.

Each bottle contains only 86 calories and took more than a year to be perfect. Also, the mixers will come in a “contemporary Hutchinson glass bottle” which is a nod to the old 1894 version. Remember when Coca-cola was fancy and came in glass bottles? Those are the ones. Also, this is the first time that Coca-cola has invited outside help to develop the brand.

The Flavours

Coca-cola Signature Mixers “Smoky Notes” is by Mixologist Max Venning. It reportedly has an intense aromatic blend with smoky hints. Mix this with spiced rums and bold, premium whiskies.

The Coca-cola Signature Mixers “Spicy Notes” was a collaboration between Adriana Chía and Pippa Guy. It features a warm introduction that ends with a fiery finish and is a sophisticated and complex blend. Also, take note of the citrusy lime, ginger, spicy jalapeño, fragrant rosemary and aromatic jasmine. This pairs well with spiced rums, aged/gold tequilas, and spicy or sweet whiskies too.

Antonio Naranjo is the mastermind behind Coca-cola Signature Mixers “Herbal Notes” which has a delightful floral, crisp and tart mix. It balances notes of refreshing lemongrass with earthy tones of dill seed and tagetes. You can also pair this beautifully with amber whiskies and most types of rum.

The last flavour which is Coca-cola Signature Mixers “Woody Notes” is brought to us by Alex Lawrence. Crafted from a subtle blend of earthy patchouli, citrusy yuzu, and aromatic basil, it will give you a light and refreshing experience. Let this enhance the mellow wood and sweet tropical flavours of golden rums and smoky to woody whiskies.

How did this happen?

The process started with mixologists attending a London workshop in March 2018 where they experimented with ingredients to create the mixers. Then consumers were invited to taste the new recipes and the four most popular ones went into production. Each 200ml bottle will feature a stamp of its co-creator’s signature.

Why Mixers?

Coca-cola is making this move as they understand that drinkers are opting for more expensive mixers. Understanding the trends of the market and staying on top is a big part of Coca-cola’s success as a beverage company.

Doesn’t this sound great? Unfortunately I have bad news for you. The mixers which will launch in June will only be available in the U.K. For now, there is no news on whether they will be introduced into other markets around the world in the future.

Fingers crossed they don’t miss us out! These mixers could really up your next drinking session. For now, we can just appreciate the products from afar. Maybe if you have friends coming back from the U.K. they can help you get one or two – BRB we’re off to scan our contact list for anyone in the U.K.!
