Mont Kiara has plenty of cafes and restaurants waiting to be discovered, particularly if you don’t frequent the area often. Cafe hoppers, for instance, can look forward to a variety of food and beverages around the area, ranging from brunch options to artisan coffee and comfort food. That said, here are 8 Places for Weekend Cafe-Hopping Sessions in Mont Kiara!
1) Ra-Ft Cafe
Arcoris Plaza is home to the famous Ra-Ft Cafe. Well, at least judging by the crowd the last time I went there for a weekend brunch. They offer hearty breakfast options, covering the signature all-in-one Ra-Ft Breakfast and My Breakfast. The latter allows you to customise your choice of bread, egg doneness, protein and two sides. Their menu also consists of comfort-food varieties including pasta, burgers, chicken, and sandwiches among others.
I ended up ordering their Classic Beef Burger — nothing fancy, just gourmet-burger goodness of Australian Black Angus beef patty (you can request your preferred meat doneness) topped with other ingredients, namely caramelised onions and sliced tomatoes. It comes with a set of thick-cut fries and apple coleslaw. They also roast their own coffee but if you can’t handle caffeine, there’s their Beetroot Latte worth trying here.
Address: Lot G16 & G17, Ground Level, Arcoris Plaza, 10, Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
2) VCR Stacks
If you love all things sandwiches, VCR Stacks is a place to be if you happen to be around Mont Kiara. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, with the former boasting a predominantly wood-accented decor.
When it comes to menu choices, try their egg-cellent Egg Sando, which includes two types of egg doneness (soft-boiled and sliced egg mayo) sandwiched between sourdough brioche toast. Some of their other popular options include 4 Cheese Toastie (gruyere, gouda, cheddar and Parmigiano Reggiano!) and house-cured gravlax Salmon Delight.
Address: 15-0-5 Shoplex, Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
Enjoy an all-day breakfast and a cup of your favourite java in the comfort of the clean and minimalist Scandinavian-style interior. You can even customise your own breakfast too (2, 3, 5 or 7 dishes) including your choice of baked goods, eggs, protein and so on. They serve lunch as well, namely Winter Frikadeller (beef meatballs with mashed potatoes & gravy) and Gourmet Dawg (chicken basil sausage with assorted pickled add-ons in a hotdog bun).
Prefer a Danish-style open-faced sandwich instead? Kopenhagen Coffee got them covered here too. They bake their rye bread in-house and offer wholesome toppings such as poached salmon & egg mayo (Svendborg Salmon & Egg) and striploin (Rosenborg Roast Beef).
Address: Vista Kiara, Jalan Kiara 3, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
Given their name “tap”, you might figure that this would be a watering hole. But the tap in question (or rather taps) actually dispenses coffee and espresso-based beverages. Try some of their most-ordered drinks such as Cappuccino and Piccolo Latte or opt for one of their signatures (Orange Nitro Fizz, anyone?). The latter is a unique caffeine-based concoction of cold-pressed citrus juice, nitro coffee and honey with coconut nectar on top.
For bites, their menu is mostly limited to toast, granolas, cookies and cakes. Their cafe interior is worth mentioning too, offering the minimalist vibe of white aesthetics with wooden chairs and tables neatly occupying the space.
Address: B-G-05, Plaza Mont Kiara, No. 2, Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
5) Kofi by 77
Sit back, relax and enjoy your cuppa at Kofi by 77, thanks to its overall calming interior. They open as early as 8 am during the weekends, where you can have a sandwich (try their homemade Philly Steak or something eggy like the classic Country Egg Mayo).
Back to their coffee, consider ordering their refreshing Signature By 77 — an ice-cold espresso drink mixed with sparkling soda and a lemon slice. They serve some comfort foods too with eclectic choices like Spaghetti Marinara, Simply Mac n Cheese and Japanese-style chicken thigh rice bowl of O-Ya-Ko-Don.
Address: Lot 7-5, Vista Kiara Shoppe, Jalan Kiara 3, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
6) HOH Coffee
The first thing that catches the eye immediately is their aesthetically clean and minimalist interior that looks inviting. They serve some good coffee here, offering hot and cold options ranging from Espresso to Latte, Flat White and Cold Brew Coffee.
If you fancy some bites, you can pair your favourite cuppa with some of their pork-free steamed and fried dim sum varieties. This includes everything from Har Gaw to contemporary-style Salted Egg Siu Mai, Beancurd Prawn Rolls and Wu Gok (fried taro dumplings).
Address: K-G-4, 2, Jalan Solaris, Solaris Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
7) Jaslyn Cakes
No Mont Kiara cafe would be complete without including Jaslyn Cakes in the list. Their name certainly needs no introduction, given their already-famous presence in Bangsar. When you approach their front counter, you’ll be greeted with an assortment of homemade cakes and baked goods screaming for attention.
For recommendations, you can’t go wrong with their bestselling Carrot Cake or others like Chocolate Peanut Butter and Victoria Sponge. The latter is actually a butter cake layered with fresh cream and blueberry filling.
Address: Lot 1B New Wing, Lower Ground Floor, Mont Kiara Shoplex, Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
First things first, the homey vibe of this European-style bakery-cafe makes it an ideal place for some me-time or hanging out with your friend(s) or loved ones. They specialise in baked goods and pastries, where all of them are made from scratch using quality ingredients.
Some of their must-try foods on the menu include Pesto Chicken Sandwich and Salt Beef with Pickles. They also serve delectable brunch choices like S’More Lava Eggs, Baker’s Omega Toast and Savoury French Toast.
Address: C-0G-03, Aman Walk, No. 4, Jalan Kiara 2, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
