It’s that time of the year again! The year-end school holiday is coming this November 24th. This also means that there will be plenty of movies releasing in the local cinemas soon. Here are the 8 movies to look out for during this year-end school holiday.

1) Coco (November 23)

The Story: A 12-year-old boy named Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez), who is an aspiring musician, finds himself in the Land of the Dead with his dog, Dante following a mysterious chain of events.

The Buzz: With co-director Lee Unkrich (Finding Nemo, Toy Story 3) onboard, you can expect this latest Disney/Pixar animated film is going to be a vibrant yet heartfelt cinematic experience.

2) Murder on the Orient Express (November 30)

The Story: Based on the novel of the same name by Agatha Christie, a legendary detective named Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) tries to solve the mystery of a dead passenger on an Orient Express train ride.

The Buzz: It’s not every day we get to see an old-school Hollywood blockbuster filled with an all-star cast of old (Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench) and new (Daisy Ridley). Besides, the old-fashioned whodunit is a welcome antidote from your usual Hollywood offerings these days.

3) Paddington 2 (November 30)

The Story: When Paddington’s (voiced by Ben Whishaw) gift for his Aunt Lucy’s (Imelda Staunton) 100th birthday ends up being stolen, the marmalade-loving bear is out to track down the thief.

The Buzz: Everyone’s favorite talking bear is back! Given the 2014 live-action original received a heap of praises, expect this sequel to be just as sweet as a jar of marmalade. Best of all, original director Paul King returns as well.

4) Daddy’s Home 2 (November 30)

The Story: This time, Brad (Will Ferrell) and Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) have to deal with their respective fathers (John Lithgow, Mel Gibson) during the holidays.

The Buzz: The definition of “the more, the merrier” rings true in this holiday comedy. It even got John Lithgow and Mel Gibson thrown into the mix!

5) Beyond Skyline (November 30)

The Story: In this sequel, a detective named Mark (Frank Grillo) is set to save his son, Trent (Johnny Weston) from the alien warship.

The Buzz: The first Skyline in 2010 wasn’t particularly well-received. But this sequel looks promising enough with the inclusion of the current Hollywood go-to tough guy Frank Grillo. What’s more, the movie also features two Raid martial arts stars Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian.

6) Star Wars: The Last Jedi (December 14)

The Story: This sequel to 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens sees Rey (Daisy Ridley) joining Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) along with Leia (Carrie Fisher), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) in a battle between good and evil.

The Buzz: Brick and Looper director Rian Johnson is no doubt an interesting addition to the Star Wars franchise. Let’s see if he can deliver something challenging than relying on nostalgia like The Force Awakens.
