Sometimes the amount of wedding dinner invitations we get can be overwhelming, especially when the wedding season is around the corner. The truth is, we may not want to attend all of them for our very own personal reasons. So what would be some appropriate excuses to turn them down? Here are some references for you.
1) Another Wedding To Attend
“I am very sorry as I have to attend my cousin’s wedding dinner which is being held on the same day as yours.” It is proven more effective to use relative’s wedding than friend’s wedding as an excuse :p

2) Business Trip
A pre-planned business trip never fail as an excuse to skip wedding dinner. But please make sure that you are not seen in any pictures of local outing on Facebook which proves otherwise.

3) Vacation With Family
Vacation with family is usually planned, booked and paid ahead. The excuse will sound something like this. “I am very sorry that my family and I will be away for a family vacation which was planned since the beginning of this year.”

4) Baby Alone At Home
If you have baby, then you have the perfect excuse to skip a wedding dinner. Try to make it more legit by saying either your husband or wife is away and you are left alone with your baby. Everybody buys this excuse and wouldn’t want anything to happen to your baby.

5) Pregnancy
Well this would be a genuine excuse if you or your wife are/will be heavily pregnant. Due to inconvenience, usually the host will understand that wedding might be an occasion which is too crowded for the pregnant lady.

6) Committed To A Planned Paid Activity
Concert, orchestra or any paid activities would be good reason to why you can’t attend a wedding.

7) Illness
If you feel like skipping a wedding dinner last minute, sickness as an excuse would be your savior. Having a contagious infection will be understood by the bride and groom. After all, no one likes to be infected with illness.

8) Taboo or “Pantang”
Traditional taboos are effective when the host is someone with traditional beliefs. Not being able to attend a wedding due to ‘clash’ of another unfortunate event or even festive happening in your family could be acceptable. Otherwise, put the blame on your mum for her traditional mindset.
