You might not be thinking about becoming a parent or becoming a parent anytime soon. However, it’s not a bad idea to learn how to spot the signs that you might not be able to get pregnant. Unable to get pregnant or infertility is much more common than you think. Women who can get pregnant but are unable to stay pregnant may also be infertile. According to Mayo Clinic USA, about 40% to 50% of cases of infertility are due to a problem in the woman. With that, here are some ways that you can check for signs of infertility.


1) The Flow is Off

If you have noticed that your periods have been much heavier compared to normal lately, it might be due to some sort of health issue that causes infertility. Menorrhagia is a term used for abnormally heavy bleeding during menstruation. Menorrhagia can have many different causes. Certain medications and complications with pregnancies can cause heavy vaginal bleeding. 2) Irregular Periods

If your periods are off by a few days, you have nothing to worry about as it’s completely fine. It’s normal for your period to be delayed a few days or sometimes even weeks if you have not been having a proper diet. However, if your periods are irregular that until you yourself have no idea when it’s your time of the month, then that could be a problem. Irregular periods can indicate that you are not ovulating. If you are not ovulating, that itself is one reason for being infertile.

3) Extreme Acne

Changes in your skin can tell us a lot about what is going on in your body. A sudden outbreak of acne could be a sign that your hormone levels are off. More specifically, sudden severe acne could mean that you are suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). PCOS occurs in women who have an excess amount of androgens, also referred as male hormones. So, if your acne is out of control, it is best to see your doctor about it. It might not even have to do anything with your fertility but it is still worth your time to find out.

4) No Periods at All

One way you can check if you are infertile would be if you suddenly stop having periods, something seems just not quite right. It’s either you’re pregnant, or something is wrong with your body. If you don’t have periods at all and you’re sure that you are not pregnant, there’s a very high chance that you might be infertile. If you’re unsure, you might want to check with a gynaecologist just to be sure. There’s always a chance for your period to stop for whatever reason. However, it is important to find out why your periods have stopped as soon as possible.

5) Insufficient Libido

A major drop in your sex drive could mean lots more than infertility. Your decrease in sex drive might just mean that you are extremely stressed out or depressed about something. Some medication might mess with your sex drive too. Other than that, it can also cause sexual intercourse to be painful for some women. In the result, making it harder to get pregnant. Some people might seek natural herb supplements to increase libido. However, it is always wise to get checked or consulting health professionals before consuming any supplements.

6) Gaining Weight

Weight gain for no explained reason at all can be another sign of PCOS. Adding on to having an excess of androgens, women with PCOS have a higher resistance to insulin. Because of this, women who suffer from hormonal disorder gain weight without having their diets changed. Therefore, if you are gaining weight for no apparent reason, it is best if you go and check it out as soon as possible. Yet again, these signs are not a guaranteed signs of infertility but it could be too.

7) Incredibly painful periods

Pain during periods is a normal thing. Many ladies have suffered period cramps so badly at times that they even vomited. So, if your periods are painful, don’t freak out right away. If you suffer from severe period pains, pains during sex, and abnormal vaginal bleeding, that could mean that you might have endometriosis which is undiagnosed. Because of that, if your periods are extremely painful, it is best advised to talk to your doctor about it. They will be able to figure out what is going on and how and what they can do to help you out.
