“Follow your passion”, “Do what you love to do” or “Discover your inner fire”. These are clichés that are commonly heard from reputable magazines, reputable websites and well-respected leaders. Yet, the word “passion” is a concept that is hard to explain and the definition is unique to each of us. However, it is agreed that people who pursue their passion in whatever shape or form tend to be happier. Here are 7 reasons on why you should pursue your passion.
1) Passion enable us to thrive at work
If you are currently in a job that you dislike, chances are that you are just doing the bare minimum of what is expected of you to get through the day. You don’t have that “inner drive” and “fire” to go above and beyond. By working on something that we are passionate about, we tend to do our best and obstacles are viewed as challenges that can be overcome.

2) Passion enable us to feel “alive”
Wake up, get ready, go to work, deal with people you dislike, work that is dissatisfying, come home, sleep, and repeat this cycle for 5 days in a week. If this sounds familiar, chances are you are only “alive” by a biological definition. To truly feel “alive” means to witness the wonders of this world, to laugh, cry, feel angry and most importantly, look forward to the start of your day!

3) Money can’t cover up the feeling of hate
From childhood, we were told to study hard, get a good degree, get a stable job, accumulate your wealth for 30 years, and then once we retire, we can then enjoy the wonders of life. However, working in a job that you don’t have the passion for creates a sense of hate in your heart. Money may be able to buy happiness, but it can’t eliminate the sense of hate you have residing in your heart.

4) Passion doesn’t see any obstacles
Obstacles are those frightening things that once you are up against it, you may turn around and run. However, people who pursue their passion have a strong conviction in achieving their goals that they just view obstacles as small hurdles that they can easily overcome.

5) No “What Ifs”
People who pursue their passion don’t live life with a feeling of regret. They took their chances, worked hard, and overcame any obstacles to make their choices work. These people are individuals who rather live their life saying “Oh well, at least I tried”, rather than “What if I tried”.

6) You will become a role model for others
People tend to idolize those individuals who followed their passion in life. By following your passion, you will achieve success and respect that others can only dream off. For that, you will be looked up upon as an idol, especially for aspiring individuals.

7) Passion enables you to work for a greater cause
Rarely do people follow their passion to make loads of money. Often, people pursue their passion for a greater cause that is close to their heart, such as education, poverty, world hunger, etc. As with anything in life, if you work hard, money will follow. He key is to pursue your passion for a cause greater than yourself and money will naturally follow as a result of your hard work.
