7 Bite-licious Polo Bun Spots In Klang Valley

7 Bite-licious Polo Bun Spots In Klang Valley

Polo buns or “bolo bao” in Cantonese is one of the most popular (baked goods) menu items in a cha chaan teng (Hong Kong-style cafe). Interestingly enough, the word “polo” actually refers to “pineapple”, even though there’s no actual pineapple filling or flavour whatsoever. It’s just that polo buns are named as such due to their crusty pineapple-like exterior. Polo buns are typically served with a slab of butter but they also can be enjoyed with other savoury or sweet fillings. Below is our list of 7 Bite-licious Polo Bun Spots in Klang Valley.

1) Nanyang Cafe

A visit to Nanyang Cafe isn’t complete without sampling their famous polo bun or Pineapple Bun as written on their menu. Crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside, even when I tried their basic Pineapple Bun is already good enough on its own. The secret? Freshly-baked Pineapple Buns on a daily basis. Also, try the one with New Zealand butter and yes, they use the famous Anchor brand. No doubt a perfect combo best enjoyed with a glass of hot Nanyang Milk Tea or Coffee.

Here’s a recently-opened little polo bun spot, where you can enjoy it as early as 8 am in the morning. Except that PoloMilk is pretty much a grab-and-go concept. They specialise in Taiwanese-style polo buns with different fillings available. This includes the classic slab-of-butter filling and even unique additions like Matcha Polo, Vanilla Polo and Choco Polo. You can buy them a la carte or better yet, go for their set that comes with a milky cold drink (Classic White/HK Milk Tea).
