Japanese Anime fans out there, here’s a great news for you! The 13th One Piece Movie, named One Piece Film: Gold, will be released in Malaysia on the 8th of September, Thanks to GSC Movies. For those of you who are hearing this name for the first time, this film is part of the One Piece film series, based on the One Piece manga, written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. Here’s why you should catch its latest movie series, One Piece Film: Gold.
1) One Piece is acclaimed for its art, characterization, humor and interesting story-line
One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a funny young man whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his diverse crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in Search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece”, in order to become the next King of the Pirates.
2) One Piece has a long standing history
One Piece has a long standing history way before its first movie was produced. This is its 13th movie. Oda began writing One Piece in 1996. Being serialized in a magazine since 1997, the manga was eventually adapted into animation in 1998 which then began broadcasting in Japan in 1999. Since then, One Piece never looked back. Today, One Piece has produced more than 800 chapters of manga.
3) Its world breaking record will blow you away
One Piece is the world’s best-selling manga series in the history. It has sold over 320 million copies worldwide as of June 2015, making it a Guinness World Record holder for the “most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author”. Additionally, individual volumes of One Piece have also broken publishing and sales records.
4) One Piece is a global phenomenon
If you think One Piece is merely a sensation in Japan, think again. Not only One Piece has sold well in North America, charting on the New York Times Mange Best Seller list a few times, its manga and anime has also won the hearts of many in other countries in Europe and Asia. Its accolades such as Sondermann Audience Award and Nickelodeon Magazine’s Comic Awards are great testaments of its hype.
5) Its latest movie, One Piece Film: Gold, was off to a good start!
One Piece Film: Gold had its world premiere at the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi on 15 July 2016, and later premiered in Japan on 23 July 2016. And guess what, the film has already grossed USD 35.6 million as of August 2016.
