Falling on 1st February, restaurants are quickly filling with reservations as friends and family rush to gather this CNY. While you could certainly gather anywhere, or pick your favourite place, Chinese restaurants are the place to go for CNY. To kick it up a notch, ✨grand✨ Chinese restaurants, to be precise. Why not? We’ve certainly earned it, and though names like “Grand” or “Imperial” or “Oriental” may come to mind at first mention of grand Chinese restaurants, here’s a list to make your life easier!


1) Oriental Pavilion

2) Yun House

Located within Four Seasons Hotel, Yun House is where you can enjoy a range of fresh, handmade dim sum by day, and elevated Cantonese cuisine by night. Their dumplings and wontons abound, as do their BBQ selections ranging from duck to lamb. As is the norm during CNY, you can also look forward to Sun-dried Abalone, Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber and Bird’s Nest, or sample a range of their fresh seafood. Best of all, you’ll be able to enjoy in comfort and luxury thanks to its plush, opulent, yet tasteful setting.

3) Sinchoiwah Restaurant

The Lai family founded Choi Wah Restaurant back in 1982, and today, it’s this grand building of its own, catering to daily dining, weddings, events and such. At Sinchoiwah Restaurant, you’ll be able to get the usual delicacies associated with Chinese restaurants, including soups, platters, roasted meat, seafood… Choices are aplenty, so there will definitely be something for everyone here! Even if not for CNY, we think that you should definitely visit once, if only to try a bit of everything on their menu!

4) Marco Polo Restaurant

Famous for their Peking duck, dim sum, and Sunday buffet lunch among other things, Marco Polo Restaurant has been around since 1980. Aiming to offer the best Chinese cuisine, their main focus is on traditional Cantonese cuisine, but they incorporate dishes and cooking styles from China’s other provinces as well. They also tailor set meals according to festive seasons, so for example, for this month (January), you can look forward to their Annual Dinner Set!

5) Restaurant Extra Super Tanker

Extra Super Tanker–now that’s a name that isn’t easily forgotten! Inspired by the culinary landscape of Mainland China, Restaurant Extra Super Tanker offers authentic Cantonese cuisine threaded with Hakka flavours. Using the finest, freshest ingredients, they strive to serve the best Cantonese delicacies, staying true to its traditions and flavours. 6) Lai Po Heen

Walk into Lai Po Heen, and feel like you entered an ancestral home of any 19th-century Chinese tycoons. Featuring high ceilings, sparkling chandeliers, and parquet flooring, it’s a feast for your eyes. But of course, we’re not just here to admire the decor. Lai Po Heen’s specialties are dim sum and classic Cantonese delicacies, with highlights such as Braised Whole Baby Africa Abalone And Morel Mushrooms, Wok-Fried Marinated Lamb Chops, and LPH Signature “Musang King” Durian Pancakes. There’s an open kitchen for you to witness the food preparation, as well as seven private rooms, should you wish for more privacy.

7) Noble Mansion

Another restaurant under the Oriental Group, Noble Mansion focuses on Shunde-inspired dishes, the famous food province in Guangzhou, China. Some of their highlights include Charcoal Flamed Claypot Rice with Fresh Water Prawn & Superior Soya Sauce, Giant Scallops, Pan Fried Live Australian Whole Abalone, and Roast Suckling Pig with Liver Sausage–perfect for CNY celebrations. Even their set up says it, as it’s modern interpretation of a Chinese traditional mansion with section names such as The Lantern, The Bamboo Courtyard, The Terracota Rooms and The Grand Hall.

8) Copper Mansion

Elevate your dining experience at Copper Mansion, where they are much more than just a seafood restaurant. 9) Chuai Heng Restaurants

Having been around since 1989, Chuai Heng Restaurants boast an illustrious history o become one of KL’s most prominent names in the F&B sector. Taking after Hong Kong cuisine, Chuai Heng restaurants provide familiar Chinese food we all know and love, with an occasional twist. Set menus and packages for special events are available, including those for CNY!

10) The Ming Room

Located in Bangsar Shopping Centre, The Ming Room is one of the go-to places for those seeking Cantonese cuisine and dim sum for those in and around the area. Menu highlights include Double-Boiled Coral Shark’s Fin Soup with Wanton in Pumpkin, Baked Boston Lobster with Foie Gras Sauce, Braised ‘Soon Hock’ with Traditional Style and Chilled Durian Pudding. 11) Grand Imperial

Grand Imperial Group has plenty of Grand Imperial outlets scattered in the KL and Selangor areas, and they’ve been around since 2008. As such, they are now a household name for excellent Chinese cuisine, as well as other food-related products and services. At Grand Imperial restaurants, you can look forward to Chinese Dim Sum, BBQ, Seafood Steamboat, Hong Kong noodles, and fresh seafood among other things. With so many outlets to choose from, you could even have a couple of gatherings with different people if you love their food that much!

12) Oriental Treasure

Yes, it’s another restaurant under the Oriental Group, but what’s not to love? Oriental Treasure is the only non-halal Chinese cuisine located in Bangsar South, serving up scrumptious dim sum and BBQ alongside signature dishes and house specialties of the Oriental Group. Some of the menu items you can look forward to here are The Three Cones, Miso Baked Cod Fish with Capsicum, Steamed Ocean Garoupa with Prawns & Garlic Taishan Style, and Fiery Baby Duck.
