Evan Woo Breast & Plastic Surgery Aims To Empower Women

There is often a lot of stigma and misconception when it comes to reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. In addition, many assume that there is a need of complete removal of breast tissue immediately when diagnosed with cancer. Many women are unaware that there are many other factors to consider before deciding on surgery. Dr Evan Woo Breast & Plastic Surgery helps educate women to make informed decisions when it comes to their breasts.

About Evan Woo Breast & Plastic Surgery

Dr Evan Woo specialises in breast cancer surgery and reconstruction. He started with a broad-based training in plastic surgery, covering all aspects of reconstruction, wound and scar management, and aesthetic surgery.

Staying true to his belief that super-specialisation would provide a more nuanced understanding and therefore better outcomes for his patients, he furthered his training at The Nottingham Breast Institute on a Health Manpower Development Programme scholarship. There, he honed his skills in the advancing fronts of breast cancer surgery – microsurgical breast reconstruction and oncoplastic breast surgery.

Focusing on Breasts As A Sub-Speciality

His aesthetic work is very much focused on breast enhancement and body contouring. Besides augmentation – breast enlargement, he also does more challenging surgeries such as breast lifting, reshaping or reduction. Furthermore, he also does a lot of revision breast surgeries – correction of deformity from previous surgeries due to cancer or cosmetic surgery.

His practice is focused on providing high quality treatments, that are in keeping with the latest advances in the field. His field covers all things breast related be it screening, surgery, recovery and rehabilitation or just wellness and aesthetics as a whole. Additionally, he takes pride in being able to do for the breast everything a breast surgeon can do for breast disease and for reconstruction and beauty.

Changing The Perception on Surgery

His immediate goal for his aesthetic practice is to make breast augmentation trendy! Many do not realise that an implant augmentation can be done in less than an hour and the scar is about 3cm. In addition, it can be done as a day surgery and recovery is faster than most would imagine.

Moreover, there is also a misconception that fat grafting to the breast is not permanent or that liposuction is dangerous. He hopes to dispel all these myths and educate patients to plan their treatment with a long term view. They need to know that women are far more likely to survive breast cancer than before.

Driven By Passion In His Work

He has the the opportunity to have a dual practice both in private practice and in a public institution. Although it does not make business sense, but it allows him to continue research while teaching the juniors. The more reconstruction he did, the more he realize:

  1. Breast reconstruction and cosmetic breast surgery skill sets intertwine. Advancing in one improves or reinforces the other.
  2. The eventual outcome in breast cancer surgery can be improved if the surgeon has knowledge/skills of both aspects of removal and reconstruction.

He hopes his practice continues to grow and has plans to add breadth to services offered at the practice. He perseveres in this field because he believes that the future of breast cancer surgery is the complete amalgamation of cancer removal and reconstruction specialties. Short overseas “oncoplastic surgery” fellowship does not equip the surgery with the full repertoire of reconstructive surgery skills to equal that of a plastic surgeon. Through his work in breast surgery he has found so much value add to my aesthetic breast practice. As a result, he feels fully vindicated in my decision to take this path less trodden.

“This practice has always been about allowing me the freedom to pursue my craft.

I believe that if I focused on just doing what I am passionate about and what I am good at, I will be rewarded with the opportunity to help more patients.”
