Changi Nasi Lemak is one of the Original Chinese Style Nasi Lemak of Singapore, first established back in the 1970s in a small shop in Changi. The business is family-run, and now it is helmed by the third generation. Back then, the businesses was founded without any ambitions, just to provide consistent, top-notch quality food. Through time as well as trial and errors, their Signature Coconut Rice and Legendary Changi Chilli was formed. The Legendary Changi Chilli especially is their pride and joy, its recipe preserved and passed down. Coupled with their fragrant Signature Coconut Rice, one could say this is definitely a match made in heaven!
Changing With The Times
Changi Nasi Lemak actually took a break for more than two decades before being relaunched through Mr Chua, the founders’ grandson, who is 63 years old. Just like its initial launch, the relaunch did not have any specific aim in mind, as it was mainly for Mr Chua to “kill time”. The location of the shop was selected out of pure convenience: a mere two blocks from Mr Chua’s place in Bukit Batok. As a F&B establishment, Changi Nasi Lemak is confident and secure with their food quality, but the response they received is an overwhelming, pleasant surprise. Amidst the pandemic, consumers and food establishments have turned to delivery services, and they are no exception. However, certain food items aren’t suitable to “travel”, and they are now working on enhancing their recipe, improving their lunchbox, and looking at technological aids to help ensure quality of food.
Nasi Lemak For All!
Nasi lemak is not a cuisine that can be differentiated easily, but Changi Nasi Lemak tries to stand out by using the freshest of ingredients to provide customers with the best possible experience. As aforementioned, their Legendary Changi Chilli is what they do best, created through years of effort specially tailored for their special blend of Nasi Lemak rice. Furthermore, Changi Nasi Lemak doesn’t skimp on the details, nor take any shortcuts; their curry is specially and handcrafted daily with a unique recipe, rather than just using curry powder. Besides sticking to the tried and true recipe of traditional nasi lemak, they also try to integrate Singapore’s favourite food items. For example, their McSpicy Inspired Cutlet is popular as well! As an iconic staple food of Singapore, Changi Nasi Lemak is for all to enjoy, but they are yet to be halal-certified.
Keeping It Simple
Much like everyone else, Changi Nasi Lemak has been affected by the pandemic as well. However, this forced them to innovate, especially by getting involved in delivery services. They received overwhelming orders through delivery platforms, but missed out on items from some customers as their operation consists mainly of family members who are senior citizens, who had trouble with the technology. Once they got used to the machines, everything was smooth sailing though. Their consistent food quality certainly helped as well! Since their relaunch, they have been featured in many popular food blogger sites, including Eatbook, Sethlui, SGFoodie and Honeycombers, as well as bagging the top spot on our Top 10 Nasi Lemak Restaurants in Singapore! At the moment, they have not planned extensively for the future, and plans including opening up another shop, as well as selling their Legendary Changi Chilli, due to its popularity.
