The current heatwave in Malaysia is no joke, with Malaysians even being hospitalised for ailments brought on by the scorching weather. Here are 10 ways we can all try to keep cool in the sweltering heat.


 

1) Drink Up! 

H2o is our best friend in times like these, so always keep your fridge stocked with plain water, and carry a bottle with you if you’re always on the go. Your body will thank you for it!

2) Hit The Showers!

Forget about your water heater, now is the time to hydrate your skin with cold water. It’s the best way to keep away stinky armpits too!

3) Soak Your Feet

If it’s a quick fix you need, just get a small tub and fill it with cold water, bath salts and scented essential oils for a therapeutic soak.

4) Dress The Part

With our eternal summer, it’s best to wear clothing that keeps us cool too. Wear lightweight, light-coloured clothing whenever possible.

5) Give Your Laptop A Break

Yes, the heat from your laptop is just going to worsen matters, so if you must use it often, try to keep your laptop on a cooling or ventilated surface, and keep your own lap cool in the process!

6) Load Up On Electrolytes

100 Plus is your friend. But if you’re not a fan of that, coconut water is an even healthier option! It’s cool, refreshing and very easily found in Malaysia!

7) Rest Up

The heat can make us feel extra lethargic, so it is extremely important not to overwork yourself. Talk about a literal burn out. Better be safe than sorry, and prioritise your relaxation time.

8) Snack On Cooling Foods

They say you are what you eat, and this applies when you need to cool off too. While an ice-cream or ais kacang every now and then is fine, don’t forget to also eat the following, which are known for their cooling properties. Try yogurt, watermelon, cucumber, apples, lemon and pineapple!
