Superheroes, villains and beloved book characters come to life on the big screen this year. Check out this list of movies you definitely must watch, in the order of Malaysian release dates.
1) Ola Bola
Let’s kick-off with the local movie scene. We have Chiu Keng Guan’s Ola Bola, which focuses on the glory days of Malaysian football, back in the 70’s. Featuring a multi-cultural cast and scenes that will certainly have Malaysians reminiscing about simpler times in our history, this looks to be a promising film.

2) Deadpool
Have you watched the trailer of this movie? Unlike the other superheroes, Deadpool is snarky, sassy and funny. Also, he is played by this attractive guy named Ryan Reynolds. You may have heard of him.

3) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
With Batman and Superman fighting each other, the situation gets complicated. A new threat, Doomsday, is created. Looks like Wonder Woman may just have to save the day.

4) The Jungle Book
Another animated Disney classic gets the live-action treatment, and this one seems to be a feast for the eyes, with lush landscapes to take in, and amazingly realistic CGI wildlife to admire from the safety of your cinema seat.

5) Captain America: Civil War
2016 is definitely the year for superhero feuds. Marvel’s offering features our beloved Captain America facing off with none other than his fellow Avenger, Ironman. Whose side are you on?

6) X-Men: Apocalypse
Our favourite mutants are back once again, only this time it’s in the 80’s, and everyone has interesting hair changes (looking at you, Professor X). Oh, there’s a new baddie in town too, and let’s just say you wouldn’t want to mess with someone called Apocalypse.

7) Alice in Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass
It’s back to Wonderland with Alice and she has grown up now, but something has pulled her back to her childhood haunt, where she will meet some old friends like the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and perhaps some new foes.

8) Suicide Squad
The Suicide Squad wants to make sure you don’t forget the villains, what with all the superheroes dominating the screens in 2016. Jared Leto’s terrifying Joker is just one reason why you should definitely make a date with this Squad.

9) Doctor Strange
It’s Benedict Cumberbatch’s turn to put on a superhero cape, but Doctor Strange is… well, let’s just say he lives up to his name. It will certainly be a treat to see this accomplished actor breathe life into another fascinating persona.

10) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
If you thought the Harry Potter franchise was done, you’re wrong. Rejoice, Potterheads! There is a spin-off coming to you, and it stars Eddie Redmayne. This time, Muggles will get a look into the American version of witchcraft and wizardry, and it’s all with J.K Rowling’s input so it should be quite a treat!
