Mention ice cream, and you’ll hardly find anyone who will turn it down. As a sweet, cold treat, it’s a popular food item! Ice cream products are widely varied as well, from sorbet to creamy flavours, served in cones and cups, and also budget-friendly to high-end. If you’re looking for some artisanal ice cream, here’s Minus 4 Degrees for you, a Malaysian ice cream brand!

About Minus 4 Degrees

Minus 4 Degrees is a Malaysian artisan ice cream company, whose primary aim is to provide the best quality ice cream possible at a reasonable price. Launched in September 2017, Minus 4 Degrees is managed by a mother-and-daughter team, Kim and Sarah. Sarah focuses on production, whereas Kim handles sales and marketing.

It Started With Durian

It all started when Sarah made durian ice cream for her friends and family. At that time, they realised there was actually a market for artisan ice cream, and it snowballed into their operations today. As a local brand, they are ardent supporters of the local scene, and they are working towards being greater supporters of local farmers/producers. They always try their best to work with farmers/producers who are just as enthusiastic about their products like Minus 4 Degrees are! Also, they may have started out with durian, but their best-seller is actually Rum Raisin. Rum Raisin lovers should definitely try out their version!

Also For The Health-Conscious

While it’s undeniable that most people love sweet treats, we also know that consuming too much sugar can be detrimental to health. Minus 4 Degrees understands this perfectly, and their ice creams are made to be less sweet, and contains no artificial colouring and flavouring. To produce that rich, luscious, velvety mouthfeel for their ice cream, Minus 4 Degrees employs French techniques, which uses custard as a base. Custard-based ice cream is made with egg yolks, resulting in that rich, creamy smoothness. However, a challenge for them is to educate the public about seasonality. The consistency and quality of ingredients may vary from season to season, and therefore may affect flavours of the end products.
