Calligraphy is a visual art and writing technique achieved by using pens or brushes to create artistic lettering using thick or thin lines depending on the direction of the stroke. Calligraphy continues to flourish especially in the forms of wedding and event invitations, font design and typography, original hand-lettered logo design and have garnered plenty of attention and spotlight in the recent years. The TallyPress team delves into the mind of Enrica Zerline to explore her world of calligraphy.

Knowing Enrica Zerline

Papelineco is a name for Enrica’s calligraphy journey, which started off with online orders, and now has expanded vigorously to conducting workshops in both brush and modern calligraphy. The Birth of Papelineco

From the internet, Enrica saw that so many calligraphers are in, and she was interested to test it out. So she began to try with her watercolor brush, and bought calligraphy pen, and started learning it by herself through the internet. As time went by she decided to give a name for her calligraphy journey, and documenting her calligraphy through website and instagram. PapeLineCo came from paper, lines, and company. Paper and lines are the common things we see in writings, thus she used that and combine them into 1 word, also to represent her last name which is Zerline. Enrica is a uni student, that developed the business all by herself. While in university, Enrica managed everything from workshops to sales.

Styling with Hardship

PapeLineCo has its own characteristic in writing and more in modern calligraphy, which is a freestyle cursive writing. Not only with black on white paper, but also colors on colors, and gold on black. Everyone has their own style, and that is what makes it unique. The worst thing so far is when one of the students of hers said that she gives up on calligraphy.

Within half a year, she braced herself to share her calligraphy skills, and was noticed by Naiise who was conducting workshops there, and the artwork sold out swiftly. Before the classes, Lian He Zao Bao contacted Enrica to interview her and featured her. Six months after, she was collaborating with National Library Board (NLB), and came in to became one of the workshop instructor in NLB.

Thoughts of the Artist

Enrica hopes that calligraphy will continue to grow in the next five to ten years. She is more than happy to share her skills in the next 5 years, with all the young people. She believes that everyone’s hands are different for each of us, and that every individual should make it a signature to their own art.
